Just in time for the new season of the Football Bundesliga, T-Online has reached agreement with its sister company, T-Mobile, on marketing of the Bundesliga license. T-Online has thus gained the first licensee for its football league content. In June 2004, T-Online acquired rights to reports on games of the Football Bundesliga for the Internet, as well as mobile terminals, from the Deutsche Fussball Liga (DFL). The licenses are valid for the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons and also entitle T-Online exclusively to market the videostreams and contents to third parties.

“The contract with T-Mobile is the first step in syndicating marketing of the Bundesliga rights,” says Burkhard Graßmann, Chief Media Officer at T-Online. “The long-term T-Online objective is to establish itself as content provider among all mobile service operators. Via sublicensing of high quality content such as the Bundesliga reporting, we systematically further expand our online business model.”

With acquisition of the license to market Football Bundesliga contents, T-Mobile extends the attractive range of mobile multimedia services and brings football onto the mobile phone display in the new season too. The contract signed with T-Online is for a period of two years, until the end of the 2005/2006 season.

“The partnership with T-Online and acquisition of licenses for the Football Bundesliga represent systematic expansion of our innovative and attractive mobile multimedia service range and offer our customers a one-of-a-kind football experience,” says Martin Knauer, Chief Marketing Offier of T-Mobile Deutschland.

“In negotiations with us, the DFL made it clear that it desires syndication to reach the largest possible clientele“, says Peter Kerckhoff, Content Sourcing and Cooperation Officer at T-Online. “Here T-Mobile is naturally a first-class partner.”

T-Online offers video clips of Bundesliga games in the Internet at http://onsport.t-online.de as an onSport Insider subscription for Euro 3.95 per month*. Clips of the Bundesliga games are available here from 6:00 pm Saturday evening. Payment is via the T-Com telephone bill, or Micromoney, the T-Pay charge card. The Top Game of the Day, and a wrap-up of the day’s action, are also available as a “pay per click” service.

The contract signed with the DFL till end of the 2005/06 season also covers summaries of matches in the 2nd German Football League, which will be available online Saturday and Monday evenings after end of play. Video streams of the Bundesliga games can be viewed especially well with a T-DSL broadband Internet access.

*All prices plus charges for the applicable T-Online tariff.
